FINDing THE RING

The more you know about what they love, the easier it is to find a ring they'll adore.
Here are simple ways to uncover their taste without giving away the suprise.

notice their style

The pieces they wear most often can reveal a great deal about their personal style.

Look for patterns rather than an exact match. Notice the metals, shapes, scale and design details they repeatedly choose.

• Do they wear yellow gold, white metals, rose gold or a mix?
• Are their favorite pieces delicate and understated or bold and noticeable?
• Do they gravitate toward clean modern lines, vintage details, colorful stones or sparkle?
• Take a few photos of the jewelry they genuinely choose for themselves.

PRO TIP: A favorite necklace or pair of earrings can tell us just as much about their taste as a ring.

listen for clues

The easiest way to learn what they like may be simply to ask—naturally.

Use an everyday moment, such as a friend’s engagement, a wedding scene or a ring that appears in your social feed. Keep it light, ask one question at a time and listen for the details that matter most.

• "What do you think of that ring?”
• “Do you like round diamonds or something more unusual?”
• "Do you prefer classic or modern styles?”
• "Would you rather choose the ring together?”

PRO TIP:  Make a few private notes afterward. Phrases such as “not too flashy,” “loves oval diamonds” or “definitely yellow gold” are extremely helpful.

gather inspiration

You do not need to find one perfect ring. A collection of clues is often more useful.

Save photos, screenshots, family jewelry and details they have openly shared. One image may show the center stone they love, while another captures the setting, band or metal color.

• Pinterest boards, Instagram posts and wedding folders
• Rings they have pointed out in person
• Photographs of family jewelry or heirloom stones
• Ideas drawn from fashion, art, architecture, nature or a favorite era

PRO TIP: Write a short note beside each image explaining what stands out. The goal is not to copy a ring—it is to understand what they love.

ask someone close

A close friend or family member may already know exactly what your partner loves.

Choose one person who understands their style and can keep a secret. They may know the preferred shape, metal, ring size or whether your partner wants to be surprised.

• Ask whether they have seen saved ring photos or inspiration boards.
• Have them casually bring up jewelry while shopping or talking about another proposal.
• Invite them to join your Dominion consultation if a second opinion would help.

PRO TIP:  Keep the team small. The more people involved, the harder it is to protect the surprise.

consider how they live

The ring should be beautiful, but is should also feel comfortable in real life.

Think about their work, hobbies and daily routine. These details help determine the best setting height, metal, stone shape and level of protection.

• Do they work with their hands, wear gloves or care for children?
• Are they active, outdoors often or likely to leave the ring on all day?
• Would a lower-profile setting be more practical?
• Should the engagement ring sit flush with a future wedding band?

PRO TIP: Practical does not have to mean plain. A thoughtful design can be wearable, secure and extraordinary.

don't worry about knowing everything

You are not expected to be the expert - that is what Dominion is there for.

Choosing an engagement ring can feel like there are a lot of decisions to make, but you do not need to have every detail figured out before you begin. A few clues about their style, your priorities and what feels meaningful are more than enough for us to start the conversation.

We can help guide you through:

• Diamond and gemstone shapes.
• Natural and lab-grown options
• Metals and setting styles
• Ring proportions and overall design
• Ring proportions and overall design

PRO TIP: Come in with what you know—even if that is only a photo, a general idea or a few words that describe their style. We will help you make sense of the rest.

you don't need all the answers.
You just need a place to begin.
